Black Emperor and new groups like Black Country, New Road, Post-Rock has seen a steady yet impactful resurgence in the last 5-10 years. 2024 has been a particularly strong showcase for the expansive Rock sound. Swans have once again arrived at new levels of apocalyptic Totalism while new artificers of the genre such as This Is The Glasshouse and samlrc have added a personal and folksy twist. 2024 has shown that contemporary music is not afraid of the patience required for Post-Rock, building long and enormous progressions with a newfound variety of instrumental influence. Acts such as Mount Eerie, Maruja, and Ramper have added distinct atmospheres to the genre's catalog, allowing its essence to bend naturally to the artists' individual personalities. In the end, Post-Rock has delivered some of the most striking and rewarding experiences music has had to offer in 2024, making it stand proudly as this year's Subgenre of the Year.
