Indie Rock/Shoegaze
Led by the Album of the Year and Artist of the Year, Parannoul, Indie Rock and its layered partner in crime, Shoegaze have innovated with great consistency in 2023. Although its experimentation wasn't as impactful as Hip Hop's, Indie Rock has managed to connect to an extremely wide array of audiences, from its Alternative Rock origins, to Pop anthems, and especially the heavy atmospherics of Shoegaze. As listed above, there are a LOT of exciting Indie Rock artists looking to take a leap forward in the genre, as Parannoul and company did this year. It is this consistency of compelling new artists and genre-bending innovations that make Indie Rock and Shoegaze 2023's Subgenre of the Year.
